Academic
"A" Lobby Team - This team examined the
lobby areas outside of Undergraduate Admissions and School of Management
and made recommendations on ways to improve the appearance and make it
easier for visitors to locate the two offices.
Access
for Students with Disabilities Level of Service Team -
This team reviewed to what extent the
University is legally bound to provide services, and then recommended
to Senior Staff guidelines and limits on level of services to be provided
to students with disabilities.
Admission
800 Number Team - This team examined the pros and cons of installing
an 800 number in Undergraduate Admissions.
Admissions Calendar Team-
This team created a comprehensive calendar of publications and letters
that will
be mailed to inquiring students. A calendar will be developed for each
year of high school.
Admissions Phone
Team -
This team examined where the best location of answering the primary
office line should be.
Admissions Travel Team - The
team examined the current method the office used for tracking travel
assignments. Recommendations were made to help clarify the current
process including additional follow-up procedures, a newly designed
reporting form and a uniform travel itinerary form.
Advanced
Placement (AP) Team-
This team examined the current process for awarding AP credit and recommended
changes that will make the process more formalized for the offices involved
as well as communicate to the students in a more efficient manner.
Alcohol and Substance Abuse Education and Advisory
Committee Freshmen Team - This team identified the wants
and needs of freshmen and then recommended programs and initiatives
that would target freshmen reaching the goal of the Committee.
Alcohol and Substance Abuse Education and Advisory
Committee Umbrella Team - This team determined whether
creating an umbrella approach with appropriate name and logo would
improve awareness and knowledge of the Committee's services and programs
to the campus community.
Alumni Office Team -
The team examined and improved their office reporting and physical
structure, and their
office workflow.
Audio-Visual
Team- This team examined the current
areas of Audio Visual services to the campus and created a general inventory
of equipment.

Support for Special Events Team - This
team to an in depth look at issues concerning special events that are
held at the University.
Audit
Team - This
cross-divisional team examined and recommended improvements the process
by which students register for a course on an audit basis.
B-Card Team
- This team was charged with examining the value of the University utilizing a multi-year identification card that allows the owner access to all services currently provided through the use of the ID card and the Housing Proximity card. The team provided sponsors with the cost benefit and implications analysis for all options that were available, including remaining with the staus quo.
Best
Practices in Student Affairs (Facilitator Internship) Team
- This was a partnership
between the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) and the Center
for Quality to provide internships for graduate students. The interns
were trained in continuous improvement philosophy and methods, and then
facilitated students teams in the Best Practices in Student Affairs class.
Biology
Graduate Committee Team -The
objective for this team was to review the strengths and weaknesses as
related to the graduate programs and to develop action plans to improve
those areas identified as lacking.
Break
Housing Team - This
cross-divisional team identified additional on-campus housing options
for those students needing to remain on campus during school breaks. The
recommendations included pricing structure, staffing model and priority
of residence halls to use.
BU Alumni Email Team - Team members reviewed which departments communicate with alumni via email and the process that they went through in sending broadcast email messages to segments of the alumni population. Current procedures and policies were reviewed as well as statistics on alumni usage of email and other communication methods. The effort of this team launched a series of retreats to create a comprehensive alumni communication plan. BU
Community Presence Team - This
team recommended that the University establish a facility in the city
of Binghamton to extend delivery of services and respond to the social
needs of students. Potential locations and services were identified.
Building
Access Team -Based
on security concerns in the wake of September 11, this team recommended
changes in the approval and authorization process for access to campus
buildings. They documented a process that can be used to provide a safe
and secure environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors.
Campus Pre-School and Early Childhood Center Assistant Director Search Team/ Campus Pre-School and Early Childhood Center Director Search Team - These two teams were charged with interviweing and selecting cadidates to fill the two positions within the organization.

-The team examined communication between selected groups within the school
and made recommendations on how to improve and strengthen oral and written
communication.

Preschool and Early Childhood CQI Framework Team -
This team examined and recommended a
framework for using Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) considering the
specific role of the Board, administration, teachers and support staff. Campus
Preschool Team - The team developed a plan to improve communication,
teamwork, and interpersonal relationships among the teachers, administration
and board.
Career Development Center Crimson Team -
This team prepared for all aspects of the implementation of a new software
system, including staff training, hardware installation, student materials,
employer information and staff assignments.

Development Center Programming Team-
The team reviewed existing programming, collected data utilizing various
CQI tools, and made recommendations on those activities that should be
eliminated, modified, continued or replaced.
Chargeback
Team - Through
extensive benchmarking and review of campus policies, and governmental
regulations this team was able to develop a comprehensive policy and procedure
for developing and approving campus chargebacks.
Coffeehouse Team -
This team determined where and when a coffeehouse would be opened and
how it will be managed.
Computer Center Team -
This team reviewed the sign-in/sign-out process for changing of writing
programs
and developed a much more efficient process.
Computer Services Team -
This team developed a detailed process flow for Computer Services and
Educational
Communication.
Computing
and Educational Technology Documentation Team
- This team reviewed and recommended improvements in the current procedures
for developing such documents as pamphlets, tip sheets, messages, booklets
and Computing Services web pages.
Decker
School of Nursing Celebration Team -
The
charge to this team was to develop and implement events to celebrate the
school's 35th anniversary.
Disability
Access and Inclusion Team - This
team developed a University Strategic Plan for access and inclusion by
individuals with disabilities that includes policy recommendations and
protocols for compliance.
Division
of Student Affairs Stregic Plan Team -
This team
developed a strategic plan for the division that supports the University's
strategic plan and takes into account the offices within the division.
Dorm Damage Process Team - This team processed mapped the process of when damage occurs in the residential halls and is billable. They also reviewed the Dorm Damage Policy and definitions.
Educational Communications Team -
In an effort to improve communications and training of students, the
team created an Audio Visual Manual which includes locations and contents
of storage areas and how to operate/setup equipment.

Opportunity Program (EOP) Team - This
team examined the current process for applying for admissions as an EOP
freshman and recommended changes that will make the process more efficient,
understandable and streamlined.

Opportunity Program (EOP) Summer Program Task Assessment Team
- This team identified,
reviewed and made recommendations to the academic component of the EOP
summer program.

Opportunity Program (EOP) Summer Program Team -
This team was charged with evaluating the current academic component of
the EOP Summer Program. Recommendations were made to six specific areas
of the program.

Talent Search Program Team - This
office team worked to improve the various processes within the office
including more uniform communication to high schools, evaluating which
schools to serve and an office timeline for reports.
Environmental
Health and Safety Strategic Plan Team - The
team reviewed the office mission and vison statements, and created a new
strategic plan. They continue to do quarterly reviews and updates.
Global
Academic Publishing Team - This
team made recommendations to maximize the reliability, productivity
and learning experience of student interns and employees at Global Academic
Publishing.
Harpur Dean's Office Team-
The team examined ways to improve the appearance of the office reception
and secretarial
office space.
Hazing Committee - This committee requested facilitaion in order to analyze the information in a group of consultant reports and then create a list of prioritzed recommendations and a final report.
Health Insurance Team -
The team looked into the process and administration of University sponsored
health insurance plans for all students - graduate, undergraduate,
domestic and foreign.
Health Service Team - The team will work on strategic planning including the development of a mission statement, values statement and action plan to address identified and prioritized concerns within the department.
Health Service Staff Stuff Team - This team was a result of a departmental retreat. The team was charged with taking six topics that were identified by the department and devolping some approaches towards possible solutions which could be brought to the larger staff for discussion and possible implementation.
Housing/Admissions Team -
This cross-divisional team examined the implications of housing students
on campus and whether our current policies need to be revised, in regard
to who is housed and for how long.
Housing Assignment Team - This team created a process map of the existing assignment process for Residential Life and documented its policies. This was done to achieve a broader understanding of the process through knowledge exchange, make well informed decisions in the future and disseminate this information throughout Residential Life.
HR Design Team -
This team looked at how the current Oracle HR process is operating
- from the departmental level to the HR master and finally to HR central.
Information Commons Task Force Team - This team was a collaborative effort between University Libraries and Computing Services to create an information commons. The team identified funcitons and services as well as established policies and procedures for the area.
Internal Admissions Team -
This cross-divisional team reviewed and recommended improvements to
the current process for handling intra-university transfers, readmits
and double degree candidates.
International
Student and Scholar Services - Using
the office's newly revised mission and goals, the ISSS Team evaluated
and prioritized existing programs and core services.
International
Student and Scholar Services Strategic Planning Team
- This
ongoing office team has evaluated and prioritized existing programs, services
and processes, and reviewed and revised their mission and goals.
International Student Festival Team - This team was created to ensure adequate staffing and planning for implementation of the festival, ensure participant safety, ensure balanced workload and to develop a cadre of trained Festaival Friends (volunteers) to assist Event Coordinators.
International Team I -
The team examined the process and methods used to international students,
determined the effectiveness of these practices and made recommendations
to improve communications and enhance the yield of international students.
International Team II -
This team reviewed and made recommendations to improve the written
communications used by Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions
and International Student and Scholar Services for international students.
Inquiry Card Team -
The team developed a new inquiry card and process mapped the inquiry
process for potential
applicants.
Judicial
Affairs Team - The team created ways to improve the quality
and management of the work being done by their office assistants.
Library Allocation Resources Team
- This team identified stakeholders and parameters for the resource allocation process. They also created a list of principles/philosophies to guide them for the future. Mediation
Services for On-Campus Students Team - This
team created a process through the Office of the University Ombudsman,
Residential Life and Judicial Affairs that provides for mediation services
for on-campus students that can now be an alternative to the judicial
process.
Memorial
Courtyard Team I and II - This
team was created in response to the attacks of 9/11. Their charge was
to incorporate a special memorial for alumni who lost their lives in this
tradegy and provide ways for alumni, faculty, staff and students to be
memorialized in the future.
Newsletter Team -
The team developed a common newsletter design and format that each
school will utilize while still allowing for the uniqueness of each
school. A timeline was also developed for the schools and publications
to follow.
Off-Campus
Housing Team -
This team examined such areas as should
we own or manage off campus housing, what can we do to encourage off campus
development and what, if any, guarantee of occupancy should the University
consider.
Opening
Day Team - After
extensive data collection this team recommended that no changes be made
to the date the University opens the residence halls for the Fall term
and outlined the problems and costs that would occur if changes were to
be implemented.
Orientation
Team I, II, III- The team looked at summer
orientation programs that are held for the entering fall class.
The first area the team looked at was registration for classes.
The team recommended a change to real time registration so students leave
orientation knowing their actual schedule. The team reviewed and
revised the number of sessions offered and the timing of the sessions.

Team IV -
The
team was charged with completing an overall review of the Orientation
process and benchmarking against peer institutions.
Out-of-State Application Team -
This team designed an integrated application for use by out-of-state
students applying to undergraduate programs.
Pharm Team - Team
members reviewed options and implications for dispensing medication to students. They mapped the current process, benchmarked with other instutions, and collected data on cost of dispensing models. They consulted with the risk/compliance officer before proposing the implications of the different models to the team sponsor. Photo Archive Team -
This team researched and made recommendations for creating a customer
friendly archive and retrieving system for University photos. The
creation of a web-based searchable digital archive has been recommended.
Physical Facilities Scheduling Team -
The team developed a scheduling process for the work to be done by the
Physical Facilities Department.
Physical Facilities Work Order Process Team-
The team established a customer oriented and accountable system for managing
the Physical Facilities Department resources including the expenditure
of materials and labor.
Programming
Team - This team developed the initial
framework necessary to establish the program of providing students
with on campus weekend programming until 3 AM.
Publications
Credit Team - The
Publications Credit Team developed consistent standards for a staff box
in the various University publications.
Psychology Department Animal Care, Office Staff
and Shop Staff Teams - Each
team evaluated the services provided by their area to the department
and proposed ways in which the work can be completed in a more timely,
efficient and user-friendly manner.
Psychology Department Structure and Function
Team - This team reviewed the department's
current policies and structure and recommended changes in the policies
and administrative structure that will better serve all who are affected
by them.
Psychology Department Junior Faculty Team -
This team was asked to recommend policies and initiatives that will
assist junior faculty in their efforts to establish themselves as productive
scholars and researchers, talented teachers and contributing members
of the Psychology Department.
Psychology Mission Team -
This team developed long term goals for the department as a whole. The
team evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of the area and provided
guidance for long term department planning.
Readmit Team -
The team reviewed the University's policy for degree seeking undergraduates
and recommended that no changes be made.
Reception Area Team -
This team developed a plan for the new reception area in Academic I
for Undergraduate
Admissions.
Residence Hall Damage Team -
This team developed a proposal for a revised and improved damage system.
Registration
Implementation Team - This team was involved
in all aspects of changing to real time registration for students including
computer changes and updates, rewriting of various communications pieces
and a new manual to assist staff with the registration of students.
Residential Life Housing Assignment Process Map Team - This team will process map the existing assignment processes for residential life and document the policies so that all will have a better understanding of the process.

Life Support Staff Team - The team developed a new billing
process and forms for the Residence Hall Damage System.
Sanctioning
Team - The
team reviewed guidelines for judicial sanctions to impose when students
don't follow the Rules of Student Conduct. Typical behaviors were identified
and appropriate sanctions were recommended to ensure that the sanctions
were appropriate to the severity of the behavior and matched the University's
philosophy.
Sanctioning
Process Team - This team examined the
current sanctioning guidelines and process and made recommendations to
make the process more effective. They also examined the value of
the "clean slate" policy".
Services
for Students with Disabilities Team I, II, III - This
ongoing office team has looked at numerous processes including Academic
Accommodation Authorizations, Note Taker Services, Alternate Text Materials
and Accessible Desks.

for Students with Disabilities Strategic Planning Team
- This team reviewed
the office mission and vision statements, and developed their office goals,
objectives and methods.
Student
Affairs Strategic Plan Team - Computer
Center and Student Affairs staff worked together to develop a web-based
template for entering, tracking, and reporting on goals and objectives.
Using a standardized format and embedded Help screens, the template is
designed to allow for division-wide use as a strategic planning tool.
Student Wing Team -
This cross-divisional team collected data and reviewed their customer
service during the target
time of the week before and the week after classes begin.
Systems Science/Industrial Engineering Graduate
Program Team - This team looked at the marketing plan
for the graduate program as well as the publications.
Task
Force On Student Association (SA) Evaluation and Improvement -
This team recommended ways to increase awareness and peak student
interest by highlighting and promoting the positive things the SA does.
Team Ergo - The
team was charged with developing a campus strategy to assist and educate
the university community about the various ways they can improve the ergonomics
of their computer workstations.
Telecommunications Call Center Process Team - The team will document the process of the Call Center/Client relationship. They will create a job description for the mentor position. Transportation
Team - The team recommended the increase
of weekend University bus service until 4 AM to provide consistent, safe
transportation for students.
Travel
Process Team - This
team reviwed the entire process, procedures, forms and instructions associated
with the travel process.
Undergraduate Admissions Communications Team -
This team reviewed the use of phone data and how that data can be used
to improve office processes. They also reviewed inquiry and the inquiry
process.
University Bulletin Team - This team developed a set of schemnas to standardize the format of the University Bulletin which will then be used by Computing Services to develop an XML version of the Univesrity Bulletin. Team members consulted with other members of their own offices/schools/programs and other offices/schools/programs not represesnted on the team for input on sections of the Bulletin that may affect them.
The
University Marketing Team - The team studied the process for
initiating and producing a publication.
Volunteer
Program Management Effort - This
effort identified and assessed all services provide in this role. Data
collected will be used to create a personal strategic plan.
Watson
Undergraduate Student Services Team - Challenged
by an awkward office space, this team evaluated and established work distribution
processes and methods of communication.
The
Web Team - This team reviewed the Undergraduate Admissions
web pages and how they relate to other campus web sites to make the pages
accessible to high school students, their parents and counselors.
The Yield Enhancement Team - The
team examined ways to improve University communications with admitted
students as a means of increasing the number of admitted students who
enroll here. |
